Ken Lorang graduated with an MS degree in Fish and Wildlife Management from MSU. Shortly after becoming a wildlife biologist with Montana Fish Wildlife he was killed in an aircraft accident in 1979 while conducting a waterfowl survey along the Marias River. The award was established in his honor.
